Our Story
KnowURH2O was built out of necessity, passion, and a genuine desire to help people. Here's the story behind it.
Meet Jacob
The foundation of KnowURH2O rests on a straightforward principle: you should know exactly what is in your water. For founder Jacob, that mission has been a lifelong pursuit, shaping a diverse career across the military, residential construction, and technical sales.
An engineer from Iowa State University, Jacob's technical background sets him apart from traditional contractors. He combines his engineering discipline with unique, hands-on experience: as a veteran combat medic, he understands the critical importance of health and safety; as a builder who constructed his own home, he understands residential systems from the inside out. He spent years analyzing water quality metrics and local infrastructure standards long before turning that expertise into a business.
What began as a trusted resource for friends and family has grown into KnowURH2O. Built on a culture of service rather than sales quotas, the company provides homeowners with the clear answers, advanced testing, and reliable filtration solutions they need to protect their families and their investments.
Background
It started early. Growing up on a well in Iowa, Jacob always wanted to understand where the water came from and whether it was safe. He asked questions. He researched. He tested. Long before KnowURH2O existed, water quality was already something he thought about every single day.
Serving as an Army medic, Jacob was responsible for monitoring water buffalo levels — large mobile field water containers troops depended on for survival. Clean, safe water wasn't just important; it was life or death. That sense of responsibility never left him and planted a seed that would eventually become KnowURH2O.
Jacob studied civil engineering at Iowa State, developing a rigorous, analytical approach to understanding systems — including water infrastructure. That engineering mindset shapes everything he does today: diagnosing problems precisely, recommending solutions that actually fit, and never guessing when the data tells the story.
Jacob has always been a hands-on problem solver. He designed and built his own home from the ground up — including his own water features — developing a deep, practical understanding of how water systems actually work. This isn't book knowledge; it's hard-earned experience with tools in hand.
A career in sales gave Jacob something equally valuable — the ability to genuinely listen to what people need, not just what they ask for. He learned that trust is earned through honesty, not upselling. That philosophy shapes every consultation he does today: no pressure, no unnecessary upgrades, just the right solution for your home.
What started as helping friends and family snowballed into something bigger. People cared about their water just as much as Jacob did — they just didn't have someone they could trust to help them. KnowURH2O was the natural next step: turning a lifelong passion into a business built on honesty, expertise, and genuine care for the families of central Iowa.
